Babies: The Latest Celebrity Accessory

From Apple, Phinnaeus, Hazel, Violet, Sean Preston and Ryder to Kingston James, Suri, Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh and Pax. The list of celebrity children seems to be growing faster than ever.

When Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman adopted two children in the early 90s, it barely made news. But when Suri Cruise made her entrance last year, it was news for weeks, months, even a year later when she celebrated her one-year birthday. And the latest trend is selling the first photos of those tiny tots to the highest bidder and then, at least in some generous cases, donating the money to charity.

At awards shows, as much attention seems to be on who is sporting the latest baby bumps as on the dresses covering them. A few of the latest members of the mommy club include Jamie Pressley, Naomi Watts, Salma Hayek, Julie Bowen, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tori Spelling and Amanda Peet.

It is refreshing that family is becoming more important in a place where career has always seemingly been priority one. Some celebrities, such as Julia Roberts, even took time off to focus on just being "mommy" for a little while. And since she is expecting baby number three (one and two came as a set of twins), it will be interesting to see what she does for the next few years as well.

Of course there are the exceptions, like Britney Spears, who seem to use their children as a literal accessory when it is convenient but who don't seem to remember they have children the rest of the time.

But more of celebrity mommies (and daddies) seem to be relishing in the joy that parenthood can bring, celebrities such as Jennifer Garner who gushed to People Magazine, "I don't want to miss a second with Violet." She also told the pub that she feels "intoxicated" when she's with her daughter.

And for those who choose not to sport a bulging belly, adoption is the answer. Madonna and Sheryl Crowe both recently went that route.
